Years 3 and 4 (Ages 8 – 10)

The unit centres around the picture book Moon Mouse, by Corrinne Averiss and Corrinne Tapley, illustrated by Lorna Hill (2024), inviting students to immerse themselves in the imaginative world of its protagonist—a curious mouse who dreams of making friends beyond his familiar surroundings. Through guided exploration of the story, students examine themes of loneliness, courage, and connection. Drama-based activities serve as the primary mode of engagement, allowing students to step into the shoes of Moon Mouse and other characters.

In this drama unit, students explore themes of friendship, courage, and belonging through imaginative play and performance. They participate in role-playing, improvisation, and storytelling inspired by the character Moon Mouse and his journey. Through collaborative activities, students build empathy, communication skills, and creative expression. They learn to interpret and perform dramatic texts, reflect on character motivations, and express ideas through movement, voice, and staging. Techniques such as teacher-in-role, role-play, tableau, improvisation and reflection are used to deepen understanding of the book.
