Dr Marthy Watson

Dr Marthy Watson is a lecturer in Curriculum and Pedagogy at the University of Southern Queensland and an arts educator with more than 25 years’ experience across South Africa, New Zealand and Australia. Her work centres on reflective practice, arts‑based learning and learner engagement, with a strong commitment to supporting teachers to confidently embed the arts across the curriculum. She is the founder of Creative Arts Circles, a teacher‑led platform providing free, classroom‑ready resources for arts educators.

Her research investigates how collaborative school partnerships and arts‑based pedagogies enhance children’s expressive learning, critical thinking and active engagement. She also examines the role of Artificial Intelligence in arts education, exploring how emerging technologies are reshaping creative learning, teacher identity and curriculum innovation.

Across her teaching, research and service, Dr Watson advocates for arts‑rich, future‑focused education that fosters creativity, agency and meaningful learning for all students.
