Unit description
This engaging drama unit invites students to explore the themes of belonging through storytelling, movement and performance. They first respond to a selection of symbolic items drawn from a mystery bag, and later by sharing objects from their own bags. Working in groups established early in the unit, they use a range of drama conventions to devise short scenes. The unit fosters creativity, collaboration and cultural understanding in a safe, inclusive environment.
What students will do and learn
Students actively engage with the concept of belonging through drama by interacting with symbolic objects, sharing personal items, and collaborating in small groups to develop scenes. They incorporate drama elements and conventions such as freeze frames, role-on-the-wall, talking objects, and reflections to create drama scenes. This hands-on approach fosters character development and teamwork, empowering students to create a final performance that thoughtfully expresses themes of identity, connection, and pride.
